I AM the angel of love and of the Holy Spirit. I listen to the prayers of earth’s children. I deliver the prayers unto the living God, and I see how the LORD God deliberates upon the prayers of mankind and sends forth—through the mighty seraphim and cherubim and the legions of angels of the seven rays—every answer as a missive from his heart, a precious note of love.
But when love is a chastisement or when love deprives the soul of an attachment, a fond longing in this octave for the baubles and trinkets of life, then the soul does not recognize the answer but thinks this as simply another adversity and that the LORD God has gone into his cell, into his cloister, not to hear the plea, the impassioned plea of the one who prays, yet who prays without commitment to the will of God.
Commitment to the will of God is the total abandonment of all lesser goals. It is not concerned with the answer as answer, but it is concerned with the return current, that it might be sent once again unto the living God.
I AM in the house of light. I AM in the house of prayer. In this house, which is an etheric temple of the Great White Brotherhood, the souls of saints East and West come to pray when they have passed through the path of the initiation of prayer.
The LORD God selects from mankind, from all of the evolutions and root races of earth, those souls who have learned to pray in selfless surrender for his will. He has bidden these souls to come into the etheric temple that is called the house of light, the house of prayer, and these souls gather to offer prayers many hours of the day. Some go only to this temple while their bodies sleep, foregoing all interaction with the Great White Brotherhood. For they know how desperately mankind require the prayer of the righteous.
Here you will find souls unascended who are now in embodiment or who have passed from the screen of life, who keep the flame of only love by prayer upon prayer upon prayer. These souls represent a clear stream of the consciousness of our Father-Mother God, and they pray the prayers that are inspired upon them from very high beings, cosmic beings who apply to the mind of God to know the needs of humanity. Determining those needs, they then communicate their understanding to souls in prayer.
Therefore to you I say, ask what ye should pray so that ye might ask according to the greatest goodwill of God and the greatest need of man.
These souls in the etheric temple are responsive to the chords of the Elohim, and they hear in the great symphony of life, as it is played unto them within their hearts, the perfection of the melody of God. And thereby they discern the counterfeit of that melody in manifestation on earth and that it is this particular counterfeit of the light that comes to them, about which they ought to pray.
And therefore it is not even necessary for these souls to descend into the astral planes and into the darkness of the earth to know what their prayer must be. For by listening to the orchestration of God, they know that which God desires to reinforce in earth because those on earth have not reinforced the qualities and the virtues and the light that are corresponding to the vibrations of the eternal music.
Is this not, then, a grand scheme of the Creator whereby you may go in your soul into an octave where you may attune to Almighty God and to your vision and your heart and not be sullied by the misunderstanding or misapplication of the Law by mankind, and yet you may have perfect attunement with the needs of your brothers and sisters on the Path?
This demands great discipline on the part of these souls. For you see, when they are gathered around the table within the house of prayer—which is the Lord’s table where Jesus comes to sup with those who pray—then there is the lowering into manifestation, by the blessed Son of God and by the Elohim, magnificent thoughtforms, the Grail chalice, the crystal of the Great Central Sun, the focuses of the diamond, the ruby, and the emerald—masterpieces of art depicting golden-age life on earth.
You can well understand, then, that these souls might be distracted, that being so much in the enjoyment of these images of God they would forget the pain and the travail of brothers and sisters on earth and they would enter into the blissful awareness of the Lord Christ and his apostles and of the sangha of the Buddha. For the Lord Buddha often enters this temple of prayer to sit opposite the Lord Christ for the balance of the energies of East and West.
Therefore, only love can draw the Christ and the Buddha and the souls in prayer back, back, back to the needs of embodied earth’s evolutions who are crying out. And therefore when you behold the Holy Grail suspended over the table of the Lord, you will remember to pray for the perfection of the chalice of consciousness in unascended brothers and sisters. And when you see the magnificent painting of Paul the Venetian of the great trinity of life,1 you will remember, then, to pray for the balancing of the threefold flame within the hearts of the people. And when you see the images of the mind of God, you will call for the clearing of the subconscious from the patterns of black magic and witchcraft and all manner of variance and perversion.
Understand, then, that when there is given to you a vision in the Holy of holies of the etheric temples, retreats, and cities of the Brotherhood, it is for one purpose—that you might call this forth into manifestation on earth.
Beloved ones, when you have a magnificent gift, a crystal chalice or a statue of the Blessed Virgin that is placed into your hands, before you place it in your home in a very precious place, do you not clean and prepare and make all in readiness? And then do you not come and place the sacred object in its place upon your altar?
Well, then, it is almost, you might say, useless to call forth these great manifestations of God into the mire, into the darkness, into the monstrous forms and mechanizations that fill the astral plane and fill the temples of untutored souls.
Therefore with Hercules you must go forth and give the prayers for the clearing of the Augean stables. You must go forth for the cleaning and the clearing and the cleansing of the temple with Kali the Mother, with the sword that is a sword of living prayer. You must clear the way and bind the fallen ones, the deceitful ones, the liars who stand there to usurp the great presence of light, the great energy concentrated in the Holy Grail itself.
If you would see the ascended masters walk and talk in incarnation with unascended mankind, you must clear the astral plane and the physical plane, the mental body and the grids of the etheric body. You must be prepared to be the ten thousand scrubwomen of Saint Germain, not only in the physical octave but in every plane of Matter. This is the mission of angels and elemental life.
Now I press upon you and upon your etheric forcefield the vision of the house of light, the house of prayer. And now I impress upon you the need to make the inner call, as a loving prayer unto Lord Maitreya, that you might be initiated in the path of prayer, that then you might be received to meditate with brothers and sisters who pray all through the day and all through the night for your souls and the souls of all.
Many of you have desired to meet and talk with Padre Pio, precious Pope John XXIII, Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, and so many of the beloved of the Church. The way to meet the saints is to become a saint. The way to become a saint is to dedicate one’s life. And one way of dedication is to pass through the initiations of prayer. This is but one path, and there are many paths. But this is oh, oh such a useful path for the conversion of souls and for the conversion of your own soul, blessed ones. For some of you have been taught not to pray, and some of you have not been taught how to pray.
Therefore, learn the way of prayer and meet in this temple the ones whom you long to embrace in the embrace of love, in the embrace of the mystical body of God. There is no separation of your life from the life universal and triumphant of brothers and sisters on the Path. To know this, be willing to give just a little bit each day of yourself, and see how the test of the ten2 will unfold in the initiations of Maitreya.
First, your prayers in this octave are purified, and your soul and your heart, and then you will find yourself leaving the body temple at night and going with the listening angels in such a service of light as you can scarcely even dream of the great love-concentration of those who are one in this temple. And by and by you will find yourself awakening in the morning with a very present recollection of your oneness with the saints. And just one glimpse and just one memory will be for you a lifetime of encouragement whereby the courage within you is great enough to overthrow all lesser manifestations.
I AM Listening Angel, and I have heard your calls for initiation. And so Lord Maitreya has sent me to you with his answer, and this is what he says. I read from a precious note of love that he has penned to you.
Lord Maitreya’s note:
Precious Keepers of the Flame, each one of you is deserving of a path of initiation. There is one great path of initiation unto the ascension, but there are many ways of discipline. And each one of you requires a specific discipline, which I make known to the Mother today by placing within her heart an amulet that is very personal in vibration to each Keeper of the Flame.
Perhaps you cannot understand how the Mother of the Flame can contain within her heart an amulet for every Keeper of the Flame. Do not try to understand, for the heart of the Mother is the infinite heart of God.
And therefore, although it may seem that your initiations are dealt to you through the hand of an imperfect one, they come not from an imperfect self but from the Great God Self, who places within her heart-forcefield a coil of energy within the amulet that is like a very long ticker tape—a long, long tape that has been punched out by the very mind of God itself, punching out the Path, the exact formula for the way of your initiation.
You have come through a number of mystery schools, and in a number of incarnations you have gone out of the way of life. Now, therefore, the threads of Maitreya—woven in the mind of God for the victory of the soul—are for the picking up of many cycles, cycles that are not integrated in your outer consciousness, needs that you would not acknowledge in your outer mind because sometimes you think that you are far in advance of your own level of attainment. And therefore initiations must come, and they must come in a spherical vibration. By this I mean they come not simply one at a time but they come from all directions, like the rays of the sun, to your own heart center.
These, then, can be released into your heart from the heart of the Mother, from the heart of Maitreya, from the mind of God if you will understand and open yourself to the way of the flame of Mother and to the flame’s presence on earth and incarnate in our messenger. See, then, that you realize that the homeward path, every step of the way, is a formula of initiation—delicate, complete, exact, and exacting the highest excellence of your soul.
Today, then, I send Listening Angel to you with her message of the path of prayer. For this is a common initiation in which you may share, and by that common initiation you may be bound together closer and closer in the love of community, in the love of oneness, as Above so below.
I am with you in love—love that is intensifying, love that becomes first the gentle touch and then the crescendo of discipline, and then the mighty burst of a sacred fire, and then the inundation in the temple of being whereby all is consumed except that which is love.
This is the great symphony of love. Love, like the Buddha, comes quietly. But when love comes, love will release the mighty roar of a cosmos, the mighty roar that is for the breaking of the bonds of fear and of doubt. And in the mighty roar of the lion of God, the lion of Judah,3 there is the shattering of all that is false. And that which is true then enters the temple as your own living master, the ascended master, your own Christ Self, and one of the masters of the Himalayas unascended, your own brother or sister on the Path.
Join hands now with those to the right and to the left, and let the rows be joined behind one another. [Audience joins hands.] Let the first row unite with the second row by placing the hand behind. Place your hands behind you and take the hand of the person behind you, and in this way let there be the continuous flow of the energy of love.
I, Maitreya, will release to you my touch at the conclusion of the dictation of Listening Angel. And the touch will be for the intensification of love so that you might carry a greater portion of the currents, the electricity of the saints themselves.
Be prepared, then, for the acceleration of love. For there is no other way on the path of love than the way of acceleration. This way demands—even as it gives—the fires, all-consuming, of God.
[14-second pause; chant is given:]
I AM. I AM.
I AM Listening Angel. I desire that those who would be initiated in the path of prayer repeat the statement of being, “I AM Listening Angel.”

Precious ones, if you can declare “I AM THAT I AM; I AM God where I AM,” then you can declare, “I AM Listening Angel where I AM.” And in that declaration you forge the union of love’s bonds come true. Now, you see, you can be all of God where you are, and the Presence of every ascended being and Elohim.
With El Morya, I seal you and I say, Forget me not! Forget me not! Forget me not! [Audience rises.]
Messenger’s Closing Prayer
O LORD God, we vow our vow this day to be one with thee in love, our Father-Mother God, to be one with brothers and sisters below and Above.
O God, we vow our vow never to let go of our hands or to break that vow. For we know that only in discord, dissonance, anger, or darkness is it broken.
Therefore we vow our vow of harmony, and in harmony we will move with the symphony of love and we will carry that love unbroken to the children of earth.
We thank thee, Listening Angel. We thank thee, God, for the open door of initiation. We thank thee for the open door of the temple of prayer. We thank thee, O God, for thy life, love, and light.
In the name of the Father, the Mother, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
“The Summit Lighthouse Sheds Its Radiance o’er All the World to Manifest as Pearls of Wisdom.”
This dictation by Listening Angel was delivered by the Messenger of the Great White Brotherhood Elizabeth Clare Prophet on Thursday, June 30, 1977, during the Only Love conference, held in Pasadena, California.
1. Painting of the great trinity of life. Listening Angel is referring to a painting that graces the main hall of the etheric retreat of Paul the Venetian, known as the Château de Liberté, in Southern France. The master began this painting before he ascended and completed it after his ascension. Known as “The Holy Trinity,” the painting depicts the heavenly Father as a majestic figure, the likeness of Jesus depicting the Son, and an impressive white dove with a nine-foot wingspan denotes the Holy Spirit. The canvas has the unprecedented distinction of conveying the vibration of both dimensions of activity—the earthly and the heavenly—for the canvas was completed after his ascension. Beneath the painting, Paul has inscribed in gold letters: “Perfect Love Casteth Out Fear.” See The Masters and Their Retreats.
2. The test of the ten. The ascended master Djwal Kul has given the following teaching on the testing of the ten: “The solar-plexus chakra has ten petals—five with a positive charge focusing the thrust of Alpha in the secret rays and five with a negative charge focusing the return current of Omega in the secret rays. Thus to the evolving soul consciousness, the solar plexus is the vehicle whereby the initiation of the test of the ten is passed.
