Verily, verily, I say unto you, except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone. But if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
John 12:24
In this verse is contained the law of hierarchy—the law of the teacher laying down his life that the disciple may expand. The teacher tarries with us for a while. But there comes a time when if he does not go on, the disciples cannot make further progress.
Jesus explained this in a dictation in which he talked about his embodiment when he was Elisha and Elijah was his guru. He recalls how Elijah was taken up in a whirlwind of fire. And Elijah had conveyed to Elisha: If you see me when I am taken up, you will receive a double portion of my Spirit and my mantle. For Elisha had asked him for that double portion.1
This means that if you have the vision, the mastery of the third eye, the inner attunement with the All-Seeing Eye of God, and you have passed the test of the ten o’clock line of the Cosmic Clock, then you will be given the teacher’s mantle, which is the mantle of hierarchy that the disciple must receive when his teacher goes on.
So Elisha saw Elijah, and the mantle of Elijah fell upon him. Before he ascended, Elijah parted the waters of the River Jordan, and the two of them walked over the Jordan on dry ground. So Elisha came back and he smote the waters, as his teacher had done. The waters parted and all the prophets of Israel recognized that Elisha had received the mantle of authority and he was the supreme prophet of Israel.2
This mantle is the entire momentum of the works of the master that he has outpictured. This is why Jesus said:
He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also. And greater works than these shall he do, because I go unto my Father.
John 14:12
It is because the corn of wheat falls into the ground, because the master gives his life for his chela, that the chela can do greater works. So if we have attunement with the ascended consciousness of Mark, then we have his mantle, or the momentum of his causal body, to do the works that he did, and greater works.
In the dictation Jesus also speaks about the moment when his disciples came to him and told him that John the Baptist had been beheaded.3 They said that Herod’s daughter had required the head of John the Baptist. Jesus recalls that he felt a momentary pang of loss, as every disciple must feel when he loses his teacher. And then he went up into a place apart where he prayed and communed with the ascended presence of John the Baptist.4
So Jesus is giving us comfort at the loss of our Mark and yet he is telling us that laying down one’s life that the disciple may expand is indeed a natural law of hierarchy. At some point in the teacher’s life, the weight that he carries, the weight of light, is so great that the corn of wheat must fall into the ground that it might bear fruit. This is the ongoing law not only of hierarchy, but of the entire universe.
When Jesus told his disciples that he would have to go on, he gave them this counsel:
He that loveth his life shall lose it. And he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
John 12:25
This is exactly the test of the ten o’clock line, the line of God-vision and of overcoming selfishness and self-love. Through selflessness we acquire vision. If we selfishly cling to our life, to ourselves and to our little mundane existence, if we allow people around us to possess us with their human consciousness, to take us from our God and from our service—if we do these things, we are loving our life and we will lose it. But if we hate our life in the sense that we do not cherish the human consciousness, the human self or the human patterns, then we will keep our life unto life eternal because we will become transformed in the image of our God Presence.
If any man serve me, let him follow me. And where I am,there shall also my servant be. If any man serve me, him will my Father honor.
John 12:26
It is through service that we attain selflessness, and service can become a momentum. A habit pattern of selfishness has to be overcome with a habit pattern of selflessness. We may have indulged ourselves in using our time for excessive recreation, inordinate sleep or engaging too much in different forms of self-adornment. When we start to replace those hours with decrees and service to our fellowman, we find that initially there is a resistance. It is just like trying to take a wagon wheel out of its rut and putting it onto ground that has not been broken in.
The carnal mind resists this surrender, but that does not matter. The more resistance you get, the more you know that you are on the right track. But it is resistance to the old path that has to be put forth in order to overcome the momentum of the coil.
Every human habit pattern is a coil around the axis of man’s being, around the spine. That coil is broken down and unwound, layer by layer, by decree patterns and by reversing the momentum. It is the same for the habits of smoking, drinking, watching television or playing cards. When we do these things so many times, the habit becomes a coil. And each time we do the thing, the coil is wound around the pole of being. But if you build up a great enough decree momentum and have enough determination, you can break this coil all the way down the side without having to unwind it. It depends upon the amount of effort and determination you put into it. All of it can crumble at once by the action of the fire.
Each time you take a step to decree, to break the old habit pattern, you are building a new coil of a positive momentum of light. And that new coil, which is of perfection, is able to magnetize the same coils of perfection from every ascended master who has ever manifested the same quality that you are designed to outpicture.
Let us say that the new coil is constancy to do the will of God. Constancy is a green flame; the will of God is blue. If you are doing decrees on these rays and striving to outpicture these virtues, you are beginning to build a huge spiral of light around yourself. It becomes a magnet. Because it is in the plane of Matter, it must become an electrode on the minus side, which attracts and impels the power of Spirit, or the plus factor in the kingdom of heaven, to be brought down into earth. This is the way that the kingdom of heaven can be brought into manifestation.
If we set up electrodes, or magnetic forcefields, of perfection of heavenly virtues within our four lower bodies, within our consciousness, we can magnetize heaven. And when enough people begin to do this, then there is the fusion of the planes of Spirit and Matter, and the Christ consciousness is born.
At that moment you have the Second Coming of Christ, and this coming of Christ is predicted for these times. But every man will not see him, because every man will not have the experience of the fusion of heaven and earth within his own forcefield. So the Second Coming of Christ occurs on the microcosmic level, or in the level of man’s being, at the same time that it occurs on the macrocosmic level of the whole planet. And whether or not the planet is aware of the Second Coming of Christ depends upon whether or not each individual has first established this meeting of heaven and earth within his own heart chakra.
So this overcoming of the test of the ten, which includes not only selflessness but also God-vision, is the key. For if we don’t have inner sight, we will not see the Christ when he comes.
Now is the judgment of this world. Now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
John 12:31-32
When the teacher ascends, he raises all who are tied to him. You may know the principle of the napkin. If you lay a napkin flat on a table and you pick up the center, that center represents the ascending consciousness of the teacher, the guru. You raise the center and the whole napkin will be raised with it. And this is exactly what Jesus was talking about—“And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.”
Each time an unascended being attains to the level of perfection and ascends, all who are tied to him on this napkin of life must rise. Whether you realize it or not, every one of you who knew Mark or have read our books, every single one of you, are touched and raised. You are not the same people. Since Mark’s ascension, you have more light in your bodies. You have greater preparation in the forcefield of your consciousness. This could not have taken place if he had not gone on.
So you will find that all through the writings of Jesus he explains that the Good Shepherd must lay down his life for his sheep. This constant theme runs through Jesus’ life—that he must be crucified, he must go through these initiations, to pave the way for everyone on the planetary body who is tied to him.
