Your Children Will Put On Your Psychology
Excerpt from a lecture by Elizabeth Clare Prophet
given at the Royal Teton Ranch, July 2, 1991
The child is a reflection of the levels of attainment of the parent. When it comes to the parent’s self-indulgence or what the parent allows himself to get away with, the child will follow the patterns of the parent’s emotions and desires.
Most of us let ourselves get away with something now and then. We think we can get away, at times, with ignoring or disobeying God’s laws. As long as we’re good most of the time and do everything else right, we think we can cut corners a little here and a little there. Whereas we may be able to keep ourselves in control by skipping around the edges of the Law, our example may be multiplied without restraint in our children.... If you do something once, in their eyes “If daddy or mommy does this, it’s okay,” and they may make a habit of it.
Children tie into their parents’ emotional bodies and the patterns of karma that are communicated through the parents’ subconscious. And the parents transmit their unspoken self to the child.... Your children will put on your psychology and they will wear it. They imitate everything you are—how you walk and laugh, smile or frown, your speech patterns, your likes and dislikes, what you eat or don’t, your tastes in entertainment, sports, politics, et cetera.... If you follow a path of discipline and set standards of sacrifice, surrender, selflessness and service, your children will take for granted that this is the way life is.
So what parents find in their offspring is many times what they have not challenged in themselves. For example, if you have a habit of losing your temper, you may see this habit manifesting in your children. On the other hand, children have their own unique karma for which they are solely responsible. Parents can only do their best and set an example of excellence for children to do their best.
